Wazito FC head coach Fred Ambani has said that his main ambition is to win the FKF National Super League (NSL) title at the end of the campaign.
According to the former AFC Leopards player, promotion back to the Kenyan Premier League is an ‘automatic’ affair for Wazito despite the stiff competition being witnessed in the second tier league.
Wazito lead the 20-team league on 58 points, two ahead of second placed Ushuru FC and three ahead of third placed Nairobi Stima after round of 28 matches, making the promotion battle so close to call.
“Our main target is to lift the league (NSL) trophy. I’m confident, we only need to win all our remaining matches(10) to cement our number one position,” said Ambani.
The former Nairobi Stima coach was handed Wazito’s reins in March with Stanley Okumbi coming on board as team technical director; appointments aimed at catapulting the team to a quick return to the top division.
Ambani has at the same time hailed his bosses for ensuring that players are paid on time, an aspect which he argues has played a bigger role in the team’s good run.
“Compared to other teams in this league, Wazito is doing well in terms of salary payments and so we have no player who is complaining,” he added.
Wazito and fifth placed Kenya Police are the only teams in the top five to have lost a high number of games at six, but Ambani is not worried as their opponents have also dropped points through numerous draws.
