The 2016 FKF Shield winners Tusker FC have pulled out of the domestic cup competition to concentrate on their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season, the club announced this morning.
The club’s chairman Daniel Aduda said the decision had been difficult to make but was necessitated by their desire to drive their focus on winning back the league title.
“It was not an easy decision to make but we want to help the team concentrate on the league. We have a target of winning the title and want to focus on that,” Aduda told the club’s website.
The Brewers are currently fifth in the league table with 25 points and play AFC Leopards on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos in the next league match.
They last won the league title in 2016, the same year they lifted the FKF Shield under Ugandan coach Paul Nkata.
Kariobangi Sharks are current holders of the Shield crown having defeated Sofapaka FC 3-2 in last year’s final.
