Three suspected gangsters were Sunday shot dead by police at Kokotoni area in Kilifi County.
According to police, the suspects had robbed a local trader of Ksh.70,000 before fleeing on a motorcycle towards Mazeras direction where they were trailed and gunned down.
“A combined team of officers from Stapol Rabai and Divcrime Rabai pursued the said gang and caught up with them at Kokotoni area whereby a patrol team from Northern Corridor patrol unit had laid an ambush in wait. A shoot out ensued and three members of the gang were fatally injured,” said police in a report on the incident.
Police recovered from the suspects two AK47 rifles loaded with 29 and 30 rounds of ammunition, a blood stained dagger, a reed woven basket, a brown jacket and Ksh.168,000.
The motorcycle they were using was also seized and the rider arrested.
The same gang was also linked to another robbery within Mazeras town earlier in the day.
“While at the station one Mohamed Isak Eden a trader within Mazeras town came and reported that the same gang had robbed him at about 1145hrs of an unknown amount of money,” said police.
The bodies were moved to the Coast General hospital mortuary pending identification.
