Wednesday April 10, 2019 – A middle aged man was arraigned in Court on Wednesday charged with conspiracy to bomb the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and kill as many people as possible.
According to the prosecution, the man identified as Victor Bwire was planning to carry out a terrorist attack at the iconic building.
The charge sheet stated that Bwire had gathered information on the security arrangement of the KICC through his mobile device on January 23rd and relayed the information to Abdalla, who resides outside Kenya, through his Facebook account, with the intention of effecting the criminal act.
According to the prosecution, a forensic investigation of the phones obtained by the police from the suspect revealed information he had sent with regard to KICC’s security arrangement to his contacts in Somalia.
Bwire and his accomplices were planning to hit the building and kill over 3,000 Kenyans who visit the building daily.
Bwire was further charged with the second offence of collecting information to help achieve an attack.
He is set to remain in police custody until the next hearing of the case.
