Giants Aga Khan Academy boys’ team and Kaya Tiwi Girls will be aiming to defend their basketball crowns at the Coast Region School Games that will be held at the Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo La Tewa Secondary School in Mombasa from March 13-16.
Kaya Tiwi are pooled in Group ‘B’ alongside Mama Ngina Girls and one representative from Lamu County.
On the other hand, Agakhan are in Pool ‘A’ and will face off with Shimba Hills from Kwale County and a representative apiece from Tana River and Taita Taveta counties.
By virtue of being hosts, Mombasa County will have two teams in each discipline but could have third in other games should the rest of the counties such as Lamu fail to produce a team.
Taita Taveta County have been allocated two slots in both categories of handball and hockey girls’ category while Kilifi county will field two teams in rugby 15’s.
In rugby 15’s, Pool A comprises of Lamu, Mombasa (two slots), Kilifi and Kwale while Pool B brings together Mombasa , Taita and Kilifi (two).
Swimming competition which was not part of the programme at the sub-county and county games will however be on the cards at the regional level at the Visa Oshwal Academy pool.
The national championship is slated for April, also in Mombasa.
