As the 2019 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Associations National Term One Games kicks off today, Meru School hockey team also known as the ‘Vikings’ are confident of making a sensational show as they make their bow at the national level.
Meru posted arguably one of their best performances at the regional to storm to the final and hockey head coach Enock Wangira has warned his charges not to be overcome by optimism but rather focus on the competition to achieve their objectives.
“We are happy to be at the nationals. We know it’s not easy to reach here and we are already aware of the task ahead but we are optimistic of a good performance,” Wangira said.
Wangira at the same time backed his charges to reach the semis adding that they’ll be no pushovers.
“My boys are well prepared, mentally, physically and psychologically, they do understand well our aim which is to reach the semi finals of the competitions,’’ Wangira adds.
Meru School will open their campaign against M-Pesa Foundation School from Central region in the preliminaries stage in the Pool B.
Other teams from the Eastern region that are poised to challenge for the honours include Kangaru School in the Rugby 15s, Miruriri in the basketball boys and Mbooni Boys in handball.
