A section of Barclays Bank branch in Murang’a town was Monday destroyed by a fire that began inside the facility.
Confirming the incident, Murang’a Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Julius Rutere told Citizen Digital that preliminary investigations indicate the fire began in the bank’s server room at around 1.30pm.
Security guards manning the facility raised an alarm, alerting the county fire brigade who responded in time, preventing extensive damage from the inferno.
The DCIO said the fire is thought to have been caused by an electric fault.
“So far now we are not suspecting any foul play we are taking the cause of the fire to be an electric fault but that is subject to confirmation. We will call the fire people to confirm the same,” said Mr. Rutere.
The police boss noted that no one was injured during the incident, adding that the fire did not affect the safe where money is stored.
The cost of the damage could not be immediately established.
