Former Harambee Stars striker Bernard Onyango “Imboko” has backed Kenya to go beyond the group stages at the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Finals in Egypt.
Kenya is in a tough Group F that also contains continental football greats Senegal and Algeria but Onyango believes the Stars have enough quality to reach the knockout stages.
The former AFC Leopards manager said Stars have had a decent preparation for the tournament and recognized the Government’s support in making their build-up a proper one.
Kenya is currently holding a training camp in France and face a friendly against DR Congo on Saturday. They beat Madagascar 1-0 last Friday in another friendly.
“Harambee Stars will not be pushovers in the biggest tournament on the continent thanks to the better preparation and care the team has been accorded from the government.
“They are going to help us with the professionalism required, attained from the foreign clubs and playing with players from different countries.
“Our local league has tremendously improvement and that is why Gor Mahia has performed better on the International platform,” Onyango said.
Harambee Stars’ French coach Sebastien Migne is sharpening his lads in a residential training in Marcoussis, a suburb of the French capital France ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and after naming his last 23-man squad to carry the Kenyan flag , everyone in the camp looks more than ready to roar in the land of Pharaoh .
Kenya is scheduled to start the campaign on June 23 where they will go head to head against Algeria at 11:00pm local time.
