Wednesday, February 27, 2019-Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, was shocked after seeing some of the lethal guns that were returned by civilians during the ongoing vetting and amnesty exercise being carried out by the Firearms Licensing Board.
One of the prominent Kenyans handed over 10 shotguns, 18 assault rifles, pistols and revolvers.
While speaking to the press,Matiang’i said that some of the lethal guns that were returned by civilians are supposed to be used by KDF soldiers and no civilian is allowed by the law to be in possession of such guns.
“This is not a gun land and we will not allow people to run all manner of businesses even dealers who are selling and distributing firearms must be licensed by the board,”Matiang’i said.
Most of the civilians’ especially wealthy businessmen, arm dealers and prominent politicians have been getting the guns through backdoor and that’s why no-nonsense Matiang’i wants to streamline the Firearms Licensing Board.
The vetting and amnesty exercise will go on until April.
Here are photos of some of the sosphicated guns that were returned during the ongoing exercise.
