Kenya Basketball Federation Classic League women defending champions Equity Hawks head coach David Maina is confident that his side will finish the first leg at the top of the league.
Equity face UON Dynamites and Strathmore on Saturday and Sunday respectively at Nyayo Gymnasium.
The bankers’, who have lost only one match since the beginning of the season, will be in action over the weekend and Maina said he won’t take his opponents for granted as he knows they will be tough matches.
“We want to win those matches so as to retain our position in the league. There are no underdogs and therefore we are going to put out first foot forward because we want not just to win but win the games convincingly,” Maina added.
Equity’s only loss came last weekend when they were hammered by former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 52-50.
At the same time, KPA captain Brenda Angeshi is optimistic they will get a win in Kakamega against Western Delight. Angeshi, who will miss the match due to job assignment, said they are going for nothing but a win.
“The team is quite prepared for the fixture. We have new players coming in so we want to see how they will adapt to the team,” Angeshi added.
Meanwhile, KPA men team captain Samuel Ocholla is hopeful that the defending champions will register good results away as they face Lakeside in Kisumu.
“Preparations have been great, we are taking a game at a time,” Ocholla said. This will be KPA’s 10th game as they close to the end of the first leg.
