Saturday March 2, 2019-Ex-Sports CS, Rashid Echesa, yesterday made several appointments minutes to his sacking by President Uhuru Kenyatta over gross misconduct and incompetence.
Before his unceremonious sacking, Echesa had appointed Citizen TV journalist, Mike Okinyi, as the Media, Broadcasting and Communication Director for the 2020 World Under-20 Athletics Championships.
Okinyi will be deputised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Kenya (SJAK) President Chris Mbaisi.
“Okinyi and Mbaisi will be members of the steering committee effective from the 1st January, 2019 for a period of one year and eight months,” the notice by Echesa read.
“The function of the steering committee shall be to offer the best high-level organizational standards for hosting the world championships in Nairobi: Policy decisions for Government of Kenya, and review the health of the championships at each stage of the lifecycle,” Echesa stated.
Also appointed to the board by Echesa yesterday are General Jackson Tuwei (Chairman), Michael Agwingi Rabar (Chief Executive Officer), Mary Mwaki (Assistant Chief Executive Officer), Regina Gachora (Chief Operations Officer).
