Hockey Premier League Champions Butali Sugar Warriors maintained their perfect start to the 2019 season as they edged former champions Kenya Police 2-1 at the City Park.
Warriors opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Barnabas Odhiambo and the champions would held on their slim lead to the break.
Police would however bounce back 11 minutes into second half as they cancelled the score courtesy of Vincent Odindo’s strike.
In a similar version as in the last match the two sides met, Warriors would score the second and the winning goal only six minutes to time.
Unlike in the previous encounter where Frank Wanangwe was the hero, this time round former Police striker Amos Barkibir returned to haunt back his former employers by scoring the all-important goal.
Warriors have now won their opening two matches while on the other hand the Law Enforcers have had not had the best start to the season as they are yet to register a win after being held to a 1-1 draw by Nairobi Simba in their first match of the season.
The loss for Police also means the former champions missed the opportunity to avenge for the last match of the season where they agonisingly lost the title to Warriors.
On Friday, Chase Sailors notched their first win in three matches when they rallied from behind to edge Strathmore University Gladiators 3-2 in a closely fought encounter.
