Kaya Tiwi Girls’ Secondary School has won each of the last three national basketball championships and are not stopping soon, according to coach Philip Onyango.
The defending champions said they are hungry for more success, firing a stern warning to their rivals with the School Games advancing to the County level next week.
Onyango, whose side lost 67-69 to St Mary’s Kitende of Uganda in the East African semi-finals, said they are ready to rock again with National Term One Games coming to their Coast backyard.
“I believe in maintaining what I do, we will be at home and we have been winning away for three years why not now when we will be the hosts?” Onyango posed.
The Kwale County queens started their sub-county championship with a bang, thrashing Matuga Girls 158-0 in the opening match before going on to claim 161-0 and 146-0 victories over Lukore Secondary and Waa Girls respectively to retain the District title.
Onyango, who has coached the side since 2016, said their main focus is to bring home the East African title to match their domestic dominance.
Kaya Tiwi will be out to look for a regional ticket next week when the county games will be staged in all Coastal region.
So far Kaya Tiwi has produced nine girls who are in full scholarship playing basketball in the United States of America.
