Bandari FC went five points clear on top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after edging Nzoia Sugar 1-0 at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa on Saturday.
Felly Mulumba scored the winner with a sixth minute penalty after Yema Mwana had been brought down by Nzoia goalkeeper Benson Mangala.
Mathare United could trim their lead back to three points if they secure victory over AFC Leopards in the KPL’s late kick-off at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Visitors Sony dominated larger spells of the first half and they should have had the lead Patrick Otieno who fired a long range but keeper Shikalo was brave to pounce it over the bar.
Nzoia were in much control of the match but they should only blame their blunt attack who wasted multiple chances to level matters.
After the breather it was the away side again who had the first chance of the match, Kevin Juma finding space on the left wing before teeing up Stephen Etyang but only to see his shot land in the safe hands of Shikalo.
Bandari came close to double their lead in the 78th minute when Siraj Mohammed played some decent football in the middle of the park to feed Yema Mwana with a cross but his header was too weak to beat Mangala.
Bandari hold on in the latter stages of the match as Nzoia came in knocking looking for an equaliser but the dockers stood firm to keep Nzoia on the bay.
