A 29-year-old woman was on Tuesday arrested and detained at Kianyaga Police Station in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, for allegedly killing her drunk husband using a pair of socks.
Confirming the incident, Gichugu OCPD Anthony Mbogo said Catherine Wambura Kinyua stuffed socks into the throat of 36-year-old Lawrence Kariuki until he could no longer breathe and died.
Mr. Mbogo added that the woman then alerted the police and informed them that the man, who was a shoemaker at Kimunye shopping center, had committed suicide.
“We have conducted postmortem and, according to the doctor’s report, the man did not commit suicide…he was unable to breathe after socks were put in his mouth by the suspect,” he stated.
The woman as well as her two-year-old child are in custody as police await direction from the court as to where the child will be taken.
“We can’t lock her up with the child…that’s why we will be asking the court to give us direction,” added the police boss.
